BAND OF THE DAY 212# - Cloud Nothings
In 2009, Cleveland’s Dylan Baldi began writing and recording lo-fi power-pop songs in his parents’ basement, dubbing the project Cloud Nothings. His music quickly started making the internet rounds, and fans and critics alike took note of his pithy songcraft, infectiously catchy melodies, and youthful enthusiasm.
Baldi soon released a string of 7”s, a split cassette and an EP before putting out Turning On — a compilation spanning about a year’s worth of work — on Wichita Recordings in 2010. Next was the release of Cloud Nothings’ self-titled debut LP, which found Baldi cleaning up his lo-fi aesthetic, pairing his tales of affinitive confusion with a more pristine aural clarity. In the interval since the release of Cloud Nothings, Baldi has toured widely and put a great deal of focus on his live show, a detail that heavily shapes the music of his follow-up album, Attack on Memory.
Just wondering but do you know the name of the song starting at the 4:17 mark? Is it new? I would appreciate it if you could help me out. :-) http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Tw8qNcBpN8k
Hey. I listened to it a few times but I can’t quite make it out. Sorry bro. Have you tried tweeting Dylan?

Cloud Nothings at Holocene
Overall
- Monday night, late show.
- C was sick but I went anyway, I am a pretty big fan of this band. Was totally worth it, they didn’t disappoint.
- Best show so far this year.
Mr. Dream
- Best thing about their performance was their light up amp. I wish I had a video of it!
- Fun fact: Allegedly they got their funding from kickstarter
- Very very very very very influenced by 90’s like Nirvana and Pixies.
Cloud Nothings
- AWESOME.
- Opened with “Stay Useless” which was a nice way to introduce the crowd to their style and set the mood for what was to come.
- Fantastic, well crafted noise…lots of layers and interesting bits and parts.
- Loud as hell, no complaints!
- Perfect setlist. Not too long, not too short. After their encore the crowd convinced them to come out and play one more song and they jammed out something old that I hadn’t heard before.
- Highlight was definitely ”No Future/No Past” for me. Saved the best for last! “Wasted Days” was a close second.
In Conclusion
- I give this show 14 stars. One star for loud, guitar rock. One star for the crowd who came out on a Monday night. One star for Mr. Dream’s light up amp. One star for Cloud Nothings drummer who didn’t disappoint. Five stars for Cloud Nothings overall performance. One star for Cloud Nothings having a well crafted set list. One star for 90’s throwback themed evening. Two stars (one for each band) for bands who seem to have a great time on stage. One star for the opening acts who came out to watch Cloud Nothings perform and got schooled in their awesomeness.
